Merkel’s Awful Election Blunder

The German and world press universally laud Angela Merkel’s election triumph in the German parliamentary elections. She has won (not 100% sure) a third term and she fell only three seats short of the holy grail of German politics – the absolute majority. Pundits say she won because German voters like her slow but steady decision making and her down-to-earth style. Few have pointed out that her election victory has been marred by a huge electoral blunder.

  1. You seem to be entirely clueless as to why Merkel committed what you call a "blunder." It's that she had tried your recipe a few months before in Lower Saxony, and it backfired badly.

  3. One way or another, Merkel 'won'. OK.

Closer to home: Will the Republicans maintain their majority next time around? I am not sure if the "Green Eggs and Ham" will be served next-time around (or get votes). Corker-Cruz clash broke lots of eggs and led to no omelet for the tea party..

  4. An interesting point.

Predictions: The budget and the debt impasse (uncertainty) are pricey. Unfortunately. the Republicans will have to pay this as they did in 1995 and thereafter. The likelihood of losing seats to the Democrats in 2014 and ceding .presidency to a Hillary are on the horizon. If Mitt Romney, and all statistics in his favor, did not win last time around, who would win against Hilary? Why talk to conservatives (choir), if with they fumbles the ball more likely than none, .

It might be more productive to write and influence the conservatives withing the Democrats (if any), than those Party folks who are throwing the bathwater and ...out of the window.

"McCain: Republicans thinking they can repeal Obamacare is 'not rational'"

McCain: "In the United States Senate, we will not repeal or defund Obamacare. We will not. And to think we can is not rational,"

If Senator McCain is right, the why we should not focus on something we can win? i.e., where expected benefit exceeds the expected costs?
